A DAY WITH EMILY STEFFEN // PERSONAL

Friday, April 5th, 2013

When I decided to follow my passion for wedding photography, I don’t think I truly understood what I was signing up for. I absolutely LOVE my job, but it does not come without it’s difficulties. As some of you may know, I have my nursing degree and worked as a floor nurse before starting my photography business. The beginning stages of my business have definitely been a learning process for me. I’ve found that my brain doesn’t understand (nor enjoy) the business side of being an entrepreneur : ) I just love getting behind a camera and interacting with my clients! But, business must be tended to! After a year of trying to figure it out on my own, I finally decided to enlist the help of a fellow photographer to guide me in the right direction!

When I  stumbled across Emily Steffen’s blog, I KNEW I had to meet her!  Her bubbly and fun personality really jumped out at me as I read her words on her blog. As I scrolled through her images and drooled over her amazing talent, I really had a tugging at my heart to meet this super talented girl! After corresponding back and forth, we got a mentor session arranged in Fargo!! I was so stinkin’ excited to spend an entire day picking her brain and making a new friend. I feel so incredibly blessed to have had this opportunity! I learned soooo much! I cannot wait to implement what I learned and watch my business grow! Thank you so so so much Emily!! You are such an amazing person and I am so glad to have met you! Here’s to making new friends!

Check out this adorable gift Emily got me!! LOVED IT!!! The camera is actually handmade by Emily! She owns a textile business. I know what you’re thinking…is there anything this girl can’t do?? Nope : ) She’s uber talented. Check out more of her textile work at her Etsy shop here or watch and learn more about her story here. So cute!

In the afternoon we headed out to shoot together! My wonderful friends Cory and Lauren so graciously  gave up their afternoon to spend some time in front of our cameras and I am so grateful! They were so stinkin’ cute and they made it incredibly easy to learn while shooting with Emily. Cory’s hair was looking awesome (as always) and Lauren’s smile was totally infectious. They’re such a fun couple to photograph! Check it out…

Never mind our reflections in her aviators, I’m obsessed with this image because it’s TOTALLY Lauren!
Smiling, laughing, and absolutely stunning!

Our view of Cory & Lauren through the window at Babb’s Coffee House. And I die…..

THANK YOU so much Emily, Cory & Lauren!!! I hope you enjoyed these images as much as I did : )

UPDATES // 2013 INTERN POSITION + SPRING WORKSHOP + MODELS NEEDED

Saturday, March 2nd, 2013

Hello everyone : )

Yep, you read the title right. Lots of fun coming up here at Emily Koska Photography! Things around here have been super busy as of late, so I apologize for the lack of activity on my blog. One of my goals this year is to blog at least once a week. It sounds so easy, but when life gets a hold of you it can get a little tricky. These days you can find me working my pediatric home care nursing job, teaching group fitness classes, meeting with 2013 brides, launching my 2014 senior rep program AND taking on some personal endeavors. YIKES! I am so excited for 1) tax season to be over and 2) spring to come around so I can get outside and shoot more!! This spring will be crazy busy with engagement sessions featuring 2013 couples and I CANNOT wait.

Speaking of 2013 weddings, I am currently seeking an intern for the 2013 summer/fall wedding season. I am searching for a fun, creative, and motivated individual to join me. If you fit this description and would like details (and think you can handle me singing along to Mariah Carey at the top of my lungs on road trips), then please inquire through my contact page. I am so excited for this summer/fall! I have some amazing weddings lined up and I’d love to have someone just as excited as me along for the ride.

Second, I will be offering a Beginner’s Workshop from 1-4pm on Sunday, April 28th. This workshop is ideal for anyone looking to explore their hobby for photography and learn how to operate their DSLR camera! If you would like to register or find out more, please contact me at emilykoskaphotography[at]gmail[dot]com. It’s going to be lots of fun and very informative, promise! : )

Lastly, I am searching for a super quirky, stylish, and outgoing couple to model for a mentoring session in the afternoon on April 3rd in Fargo. If you know a couple that fits this description who would be interested in some stunning FREE images, then send them my way. Yay!

Whew, lots of announcements but I am so pumped for wedding season to pick up!! Bring it on 2013!!

And because every post is better with an image, here is a recent favorite of mine from Mike & Carly’s engagement session! : )

Cheers to chasing our dreams!

AMANDA IS EXPECTING // FARGO MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER

Friday, July 6th, 2012

This session is a special one because this young lady just so happens to be my baby sister! Although this situation was definitely unplanned — our family could not be more happy for Amanda! She is going to make a wonderful mother, despite the challenges that she will face. I cannot wait to hold my little nephew Kai very soon! Amanda, remember when we were talking about the ‘pregnancy glow’ — which you denied having?? Well check these out and then tell me you don’t have the ‘glow’. You look so beautiful! I am so proud of the young adult you are becoming. Love you. Enjoy : )

She is absolutely perfect. Can’t wait to spend more time with her soon! Congratulations Clark family, I’m so happy you got your little girl to join your family of boys! World, meet miss Kayleigh Nora…

What an inspiration.  We are so proud of her!! Zion is so precious. I cannot WAIT to hold him :) ….and take pictures of him, too. Haha.

Enjoy this blessing you two!! Now hurry up and get here :)

And…thank you God for a healthy new nephew and a good delivery!

NOAH IS TWO!!

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

This past weekend Michael and I got the chance to go to Aberdeen, South Dakota for our nephew’s second birthday! I may be totally biased….buuuut….I have the CUTEST nephews ever! So for the day we started out at the skating rink, which was actually more fun than I thought it was going to be! I threw on some rental roller blades and had a blast! Except for that darn blister I have on my ankle :) Noah on the other hand…..wasn’t so fond of the rink. He cried everytime they brought him out on his skates! But he’s so stinkin’ cute…you just can’t help but smile at him. After the majority of us were dripped in sweat from darting around the rink for a good hour or two…we sat down to have some cupcakes. Little did I know my sister-in-law attempted to kill me by giving me a cupcake with coconut oil in it…JUST KIDDING Christy!! Haha. They were actually rather delicious from the little bite that I had….but I apologize I had to spit out the remainder on the table :) Darn nut allergies. So after the rink, we hit up Storybook Land for a day of fun in the sun….well the little bit of sun that we did get for the day before the storm came in! It was so much fun! I love spending time with our family…and it doesn’t hurt when they’re so adorable….can’t say it enough! Haha. OH….and the EXCITING news!!! We are a proud new aunt/uncle to a our little nephew ZION ALAN! Born tuesday!! Aaaah….I can’t wait to meet him! And I especially can’t wait to snap pictures of the little guy. Congrats Dustin and Karina!! Now hurry and get to the states!! :)

Here are some of my favs from this weekend….

Hope you all have had a wonderful week so far! I know I have!! It can’t get better…new nephew and a whole three days off! Woohoo!! The creative juices are flowing and I can’t WAIT to meet up with Kendra this week!! We will be doing a “practice” couple session…so stay posted as pictures will be coming soon!

God Bless.
